Rugby Festival

2012 CBHS Rugby Festival

2012 will be the ninth festival which has seen over 130 Schools participate from South Africa, Australia, Japan and New Zealand in what has become a truly International Rugby Event.

The goal of the Festival is to provide teams the opportunity to play pre-season rugby against opposition you would not normally play. Many teams are in a trial process and the festival allows these teams to test combinations, finalise squads without the added pressure of winning due to the Festival format.

All teams are graded and put into pools to ensure that all matches are evenly contested.

The format of the Festival has been developed to get the optimal amount of rugby. The Festival will start with two 40 minute games on the Friday and one 60 minute match on the Saturday and Sunday.

In the past 7 years we have had some excellent feedback about the Festival. We have told that the Festival atmosphere allows the teams to go out really enjoy their rugby, express themselves on the field, and let players and coaches try things that perhaps that might not once in competition rugby. Coaches have commented that playing against teams from all over New Zealand and the World exposes them to a variety of styles and patterns, which is great preparation for the season.

The Festival is now in its ninth season and continues to grow in popularity each year. To ensure your position in the 2012 festival please register your intent as soon as possible.

The festival is now also open to Under 16 Age Group!

In 2010 a new division was added to the festival format. The inclusion of this new age group is in response to the many requests for a pre-season tournament for aspiring 1st and 2nd XV players. It seemed logical then that a provision for an Under 16 age group should be added to the festival. The Under 16 CBHS Rugby Festival will be run in conjunction with the CBHS 1st and 2nd XV Festival. Following are some of the preliminary details:

Dates: Same as 1st and 2nd XV Festival (3 days of rugby).

Format: Competition arranged in Sections (will depend on entries).

Age Group: for 2012 – Must be born on or after January 1 1997 (aged 15 on or before January 1 2012). Proof of age will be required.

Features: Welcome ceremony, 4 games (2 X 40minutes, 2 X 60 minute), Festival dinner with guest speaker, possible Crusaders game, awards ceremony.

Venue: Christchurch Boys’ High School.

Accommodation: The only accommodation that CBHS can assist with is through Adams House, which is the school boarding hostel. For booking and information please click here to email Richard Taylor. rjt@xtra.co.nz
